Karin Mertens

Tell us something about you. Maybe your life, profession, habit, dream. 

Karin Mertens is an artist, visionary and works like a director. She loves to transform people, to set the scene, to bring out the character, the mystical, the unknown and the subconscious. She pushes the limits and demands everything from her counterpart, so that the best can emerge. She wants to show more than just a photo, her pictures have many levels. 

For Karin, her profession is not just a job, but a vocation. She has been painting and photographing since she was a child. Creativity is as important to her as breathing. She doesn't just want to take a picture, but to go deep, to look for what not everyone sees. she is very grateful to be able to do what she loves so much every day. 

Gerd Erdmann is a silverfox model from germany. His daughter fiona erdmann also works as a professional model and lives in dubai and brought him to model. He is booked in the agency 1A Management in Berlin.

Could you share how you expand your vision of art, fashion?

Karin is always working to evolve, always looking for new. do not stand still but be curious about what is yet to come.

In your daily routine, what resources do you like to learn new things about art, fashion?

She finds inspiration in art books, museums and on the internet. She loves to browse through art books over a cup of coffee. However, she prefers to work experimentally, because that's how new things are created.

Is art, fashion important in your life? Why?

Art and fashion have a very high value in karin's life. she cannot live without them, because a person cannot live without beauty, harmony and happiness.

   

If you have a superpower or talent, which one do you wish to have? Why?

she would like to be in several places at the same time to be able to do even more. she feels she has to have several lives to be able to do all that she can do.

Who do people impact most in your profession? What do you learn from them?

As she is dyslexic, she has always had problems at school. But as an adult she read books about dyslexia and learned that dyslexics are picture thinkers and think 3000 times faster than word thinkers. so photography is exactly the right profession because everything in her head revolves around pictures. that's why she learns things incredibly quickly, just by looking. david bailey was a famous fashion photographer from london. he was also dyslexic and did a lot for fashion photography.

What do you think about your work? Is it what you like, or simply saying a dream?

She loves her work, but always wants to get better and go further.

 

In modern society, lots of people want to be famous, influential. What do you think about it?

She doesn't think that being famous is good. you lose your freedom and that is the highest good a human being can have.

What will be the suggestions to new photographers?

don't try to imitate someone, go in search of yourself

What is your favorite camera? Why?

at the moment se is working with the Canon 5 D Mark 4, but I am also interested in the Sony α7S III with professional shooting functions for videos and photos.

How do you prepare your new shoot?

New projects are planned down to the last detail. first the vision of the picture is in her head, then comes the second phase, the realisation. Costumes, location, make-up ... everything is prepared in detail and then put into practice.

What are the most difficulties during your shoots?

The greatest difficulty is always to get all the participants under one roof.
